Kabul hosts inspiring Village Bazaar

KABUL (SW): The grand show of artifacts produced from rural parts of the country labeled as “Village Bazaar” kicked off in the capital Kabul on Wednesday.

The organizers stated on the occasion that the purpose of this exhibition was to present the Afghan farmers’ agricultural products and handicrafts to buyers and create new market for them. The organizers noted that this exhibition would help the farmer access new markets and learn from each other’s experiences.  

Speaking at the inauguration, Nasir Ahmad Durani, the Minister for Rural Rehabilitation & Development said that the government has created as many as 500 centers for farmers to obtain loans across 5 provinces of the country.

The organizers, in the meantime, explained that the exhibition would encourage local investors to invest more in rural areas hence creating long-term job opportunities. The pilot program has been applied in Herat, Balkh, Bamiyan, Parwan and Nangarhar provinces.

Minister Durani noted that the developmental programs have created new job opportunities for both men and women. The minister added that as many as 988 nomads have participated in the exhibition. 55 % of the nomad participants are females, he added.

The National Program for Rural Industrial Development was initiated in 2010. As much as $ 35 million have been spent on this project so far.

The “Village Bazaar” would stay open for 3 days at the Kabul’s Bagh-e-Babur.
