KABUL (SW): Kabul’s Babur Gardens is host to this year’s Herat-International Women’s Film Festival that features over 70 films.
Co-founded by Armanshahr/OPEN ASIA and Roya Film House (RFH) in 2013, this is the fourth consecutive year for the HIWFF. A number of local and foreign artists, filmmakers, representative of the national and international organisations and people from different walks of life attended the launch of the festival on Wednesday.
According to the organizers, some 200 films were sent to the festival by filmmakers from across the world out of which only 76 were selected for the festival. Films have been distributed in three broad categories that include animation, documentaries and fiction.
Awards among the winners would be distributed on the final day of this four-day event. On the first day, writer Abdul Wahid Zia and Afghan cinema artist Aaqila Razai were praised for their endeavours. Iranian artist Rukhshan Bani Etemad is also the star attraction for the HIWFF. She has so far featured in some 24 documentaries and 11 films.
Ruhul Amin Amini, organizer of the event said on Wednesday that it is absolutely crucial that men and women work shoulder to shoulder to rebuild every segment of the war-torn society. He said the HIWFF is aimed to encourage and praise endeavours in the cinema that are making our world more beautiful with its artistic creations from diverse cultures.
Films featured in HIWFF are also likely to be screened in various cinemas in the capital.
