KABUL (SW): A well-equipped and modern ‘Abdali Cricket Academy’ (ACA) was inaugurated in Kabul on Thursday with an aim to nurture young talent for the sport.
Located in the capital’s Ahmad Shah Baba maina, the academy has been founded by Nazeem Jar Abdul Rahimzai, a former official at the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). The ACA has nine cement and clay pitches that can entertain up to 1000 cricketers in three shifts in a day. Rahimzai has plans to develop an indoor academy, physical fitness center and English language center here as well.
Talking to Salam Watandar, the ACA management said they are also aiming to train a new breed of fast-bowlers that are missing from the national team now.
Mushtaq Raheem, former ACB employee, hailed the progress Afghans have achieved from refugee camp grounds to professional cricket academies.
Currently, the capital Kabul alone has two other cricket academies apart from the ACA and is bracing for the fourth one in the near future.
