KABUL (SW): Back to back incidents of terrorism in the capital Kabul have send a new wave of fear across the city with the general law and order situation already fragile here.

Residents have expressed grim concerns about the rising insecurity, extortions and incidents of thefts. Armed robberies, targeted murderers of influential people have created consternation and panic among the citizens.

Maiwand Siawash, a resident in Kabul, while sharing his personal experience, said that it was around 8 pm when he got off his brother’s car and got in a taxi to take him home to Sarai Shamali. On the way home, the man who was sitting in the passenger seat of the car next to him, pulled out a gun pointing it at him and demanding him to give away his mobile and money.

Fearful of his life, he said he gave his mobile and his wallet to the man. The taxi driver also took a knife out of his pocket and threatened him to obey. After taking his money and mobile, they dropped him immediately and sped off.

Jawed, another victim, who is a university student told Salam Watandar that while he was in a taxi to go home from Kota-e-Sangi at night, two other men who were pretending to be passengers started to strangle him in the car and one of them threatened him with a knife to give them all he had in his pocket.

As he gave them all his money and mobile phone, they threw him out of the car.

Wahid, another victim who is a street vendor, said that when he was on his way home in a car, the car broke down and the driver got out of the car to check the glitches. He also got off the car and suddenly another car stopped by them and stole all his belongings.

Despite all this, the Kabul Police claims it has reduced crimes in a big way.

Basrir Mujahid, Kabul Police Spokesman, told Salam Watandar that the level of crimes being committed has significantly decreased compared to the previous year. He mentioned that during this month, the Afghan National Police (ANP) have arrested 318 criminals in the city.
