Justice still delayed in tragic killing of Farkhunda

KABUL (SW): In connection with the third death anniversary of Farkhunda, the Afghanistan Women’s Network on Monday condemned delay in delivery of justice in this case.

The AWN urged legal and judicial organs to evaluate and re-investigate the case. They also urged President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to push relevant institutions in this regard.

Ahmad Zaki, an attorney for Farkhunda, stressed justice is not done, and the ‘male dominated’ legal system is not interested. He said legally speaking, the case should have been concluded in five months, but in this case it is still pending three years since the tragic killing of Farkhunda.

The AWN also called for prosecution of two security officials involved in the incident.

Three years ago, an angry mob lynched Farkhunda to death over alleged blasphemy to the Holy Quran in the capital Kabul. She was laid to rest by a group of women carrying her body in clear defiance to the set norms when men usually supervise such death ceremonies.
