SHEBERGHAN (SW) – Dozens of Junbish-e-Islami supporters in Jawzjan on Sunday threatened to boycott the forthcoming parliamentary elections if peace is not restored in the northern provinces.
Abdul Majeed Samim, a local elder, and Qudratullah Watan, head of the Junbish party’s youth wing, charged on the occasion the insecurity in the northern provinces is part of a deliberate plan to hold rigged elections. The protesters warned to boycott the polls if first vice president, Gen. Abdul Rasheed Dostum, does not take part in security operation here, and peace and transparency are not ensured in the polls.
Meanwhile, the provincial police chief, Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, has acknowledged the security situation in the province has worsened. He, however, promised the Taliban rebels would be pushed back through the proposed military operation in the province.
Based on the information obtained by Salam Watandar, nine out of ten districts in the province are under threat from the Taliban.
