“Judiciary yet to gain the confidence of the masses”

KABUL (SW): The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) admitted on Sunday that the judicial organs are yet to gain the confidence of the masses.

Mohammad Fareed Hamidi, the Attorney General said this while addressing a moot titled “The AGO’s Promises for the People of Afghanistan”.

He stated that Afghan youth are paying sacrifices on daily basis in the wake of terrorism and while safeguarding their country and the countrymen but it is regretted that the judicial organs have failed to gain the confidence of the masses in delivering justice. He stressed for more efforts to ensure peace and justice in the country.

In the meantime, the AGO introduced 40 attorneys in various provincial and central level. He underlined that no high level official is exempt from justice and in case of a trail, the police shall swiftly bring the dossier of the accused to the attorney’s office. Hameedi mentioned that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in this regard on Saturday that aims to apply law on all.  

There have been loud calls for a stronger judicial system to effectively implement the government’s anti-corruption agenda.

The Attorney General said on Sunday that his office and the MoI would work hand in hand to ensure that no criminal get away with a crime and in the meantime innocent people are saved from persecution.
