KABUL (SW): Members of the Junbish-e-Roshnayee (Enlightenment Movement) have rejected the commission tasked by the President to probe the Deh Mazang carnage that claimed 81 lives and left over 200 wounded.
They said at a press conference on Wednesday here in Kabul that the Deh Mazang incident should be probed by an international commission since the government’s fact-finding commission is “not legitimate”.
Daud Naaji, a member of the movement said that since the government and the security forces themselves are party to the incident, therefore the government’s fact-finding commission has no legitimacy, and that cannot be impartial. “ The commission which is consisted of government’s employees has been tasked by the government, and as the government and the security forces are accused of indifference in this tragedy therefore the commission is not trustable”, he said.
He emphasized that the incident should be investigated by an independent international institution and experts.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Behzad, another member of the movement, said that there have been signs indicating that points towards the government’s involvement. He added that the government and security forces, instead of ensuring the security of the protestors, were busy ensuring their own security.
On Saturday, two blasts ripped through hundreds of protestors at the Deh Mazang square leaving at least 81 people dead and over 200 wounded. The President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the carnage and constituted a commission under the Attorney General to probe it. Salam Watandar tried to reach the Presidential Palace for comments on the latest developments but to no avail.
