KABUL (SW): The Junbish-e-Roshnayee (Enlightenment Movement) has announced to hold yet another mass protest rally in the capital Kabul on Tuesday September 28 for which it has called for foolproof security.

Last time the JR held a protest rally in Kabul, it was hit by a twin suicide attack claimed by Daesh in which over 80 protestors died. The movement is calling for change in the route of a power transmission line from the Central Asia. It is pushing the government to select the Bamyan route instead of the one passing through Baghlan.

Dawood Naji, leader of the movement told journalists here on Wednesday that ensuring security of the protestors is the responsibility of the government. “The National Unity Government, particularly the Minister for Interior, the National Security Advisor, Director of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), Commanders of the Kabul Garrison and the Kabul Police are responsible to ensure security”, he noted.

The JR also called upon the UN and the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission (RSM) in Afghanistan to play their role in urging the NUG to provide security for the demonstrators. It has warned that the people would not tolerate if their peaceful demonstrations are yet again turned violent. The JR leadership demanding that the UN officials should be involved in the negotiation process with the government over the issue of power transmission line.

Meanwhile,  Basir Mujahid, spokesman for the Afghan National Police (ANP) in Kabul, told Salam Watandar that it is their duty to protect the citizens. “We are duty bound to ensure security for the citizens that are practicing their legal rights of getting together and holding demonstrations”, he said.
