Journalists fearful of filing complaints of violence

07/12/2017

KABUL (SW): NAI-Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan organization noted on Thursday that more than 56 percent of journalists who have faced violence do not want their cases to be investigated.

Abdul Mujeeb Khilwatgar, Executive Director of NAI, announced the results of a latest poll that indicated that journalists are afraid of encountering violence during the investigation of their cases. He said they fear to encounter more problems, if they filed complaints, and pursued their cases.

Khilwatgar added that 231 journalists participated in the poll in five zones of the country, 177 of them said they have faced violence during their work.

NAI has asked the government to ensure safety and security of the journalists in the country, seriously investigate cases of violence against journalists, and make sure the victims and their families see no harm during the investigation.
