KABUL (SW): Following the dismissal of Atta Mohammad Noor from Balk province, the government named Engineer Davood as the new governor. However, Atta Mohammad Noor, the sacked governor of Balkh and the CEO of Jamiat-e Islami (JI), has rejected the decision of Arg (Presidential Palace) and stuck to his seat as Governor of Balkh.
Atta Mohammad Noor said that he will only leave his seat as governor of Balkh when all demands of JI are accepted by Arg.
A credible source told Salam Watandar that JI has suggested Farhad Azimi, Ishaq Rahguzar, the representatives of Balkh people in the Wolesi Jirga (lower house of parliament) or Alam Khan Azadi, one of the jihadi elders, to replace Atta Mohammad Noor.
According to the source, the news of deadlock in the talks between the Arg and JI are not true, and these talks will once again resume after Salahuddin Rabbani returns back from his foreign trip.
However, the Arg has said that so far it has not received any such suggestions from the JI. Shah Hussain Murtazawi, deputy spokesperson for the President, said such proposals are usually sent to the Independent Directorate of Local Governments (IDLG).
We wanted to have a view of the IDLG on this issue but to no avail.
