SHEBERGHAN (SW): Shortage of drinking water in Jawzjan province has forced residents of many districts pay up to AFN 50 for a bottle of water.
A number of residents informed water is hard to get in Aqcha, Mardyan, Faiz Abad, Khanqa and Mangjak districts of the province. Situation has also severely damaged agriculture in the province. They charged the government too has stopped supplying water to these provinces via tankers.
Abdul Rehman Mehmoodi, deputy governor, acknowledged that up to 300 thousand residents are faced with shortage of water, and if situation persisted a human catastrophe might take place here.
According to experts, the underground water in Jawzjan is not suitbale for drinking due to the concentration of Sulphur and gases.
