KABUL (SW) – The Embassy of Japan on Wednesday pledged to grant $ 3.8 million for restoring and preserving heritage sites in Bamyan.
The Embassy of Japan hosted a signing ceremony in this connection on Wednesday. Japanese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mitsuji Suzuka, said on the occasion that this fund would be used to help take the historic heritage sites of Bamyan out of danger of destruction.
Deputy Minister for information and culture, Mohammad Rasul Bawari, hailed the generous support by Japan in this regard. He also highlighted other projects initiated and supported by Japan in Afghanistan.
Jordan Naido, Director, Unesco Kabul Office and Country Representative Afghanistan at UNESCO, said on his term that this support indicates Japan’s commitment towards sustainable development in Afghanistan.
Japan is among the leading donor countries in Afghanistan that has contributed some $ 5.7 billion towards the reconstruction drive here so far.
