TALUQAN (SW): Deadly clashes have been reported among supporters of local commander of the Jamiat-e-Islami party and the Hezb-e-Islami party in Takhar province.
Senator Afzal Shamil, a member of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, has charged that the loyalists of Hezb-e-Islami’s local commander Basheer Qanet have engaged in clashes with the men associated with Jamiat’s local commander Faizullah. He blamed Qanet’s men for disturbing law and order situation in the Chah-e-Aab district of the province. He went on to say Husain Jindi, a local commander linked to Qanet has killed ‘scores’ of people in the district.
Shamil charged that Qanet’s men have killed 22 people associated with Jamiat party. The Senator told Salam Watandar clashes erupted when Jamiat’s men tried to stop Qanet’s men from smuggling narcotics.
The provincial police chief Faqir Mohammad has confirmed the clashes, but did not confirm if it were among supporters of the two parties. Sunat Taimur, spokesman for the provincial governor, however, acknowledged that the two parties are involved in it.
Salam Watandar wishes to have the views of Basheer Qanet, but to no avail.
