KABUL (SW): Jalal Noorani, a contemporary Afghan writer well known for his satirical writings passed away on Monday in Kabul at the age of 69.
Jalal Noorani was the former senior adviser at the Ministry of Information and Culture, and one of the leading satirists in the country. He was born in Kabul in 1948, and graduated from the University of Kabul's faculty of Law and Political Science in 1972.
Later in life, Noorani emerged as a successful satirist. A number of his plays became famous on the national broadcaster 'Radio Kabul' in the 1950s. He continued his career as a satirist after returning from the former Soviet Union where he completed his higher education in 1982.
Jalal Noorani also translated many works of arts from Russian and other languages. His magnum opus called “Art of Scoffing” in 687 pages earned him much fame.
