KABUL (SW): The Integrity Watch Afghanistan (IWA) said on Tuesday that the Justice and Judicial Center for Combating Heavy Crime of Administrative Corruption has been influenced by strongmen and politicians.
Syed Akram Afzali, the head for the IWA underlined the need for a commission to closely monitor the center.
The head for Integrity Watch Afghanistan pointed out that for the time being, the JJCCHCAC is not under close monitoring, adding that reports suggest that strongmen do interfere directly in its matter. He notified that this judicial center has failed to act independently under prevailing circumstances.
Meanwhile, Jamshid Rasuli, the spokesman for the Attorney General Office (AGO) told Salam Watandar that the Justice and Judicial Center for Combating Heavy Crime of Administrative Corruption is an authorized organization and it is acting independently. He termed Syed Akram Afzali’s statement baseless and noted that the JJCCHCAC would not allow anyone to intervene in its affairs. Rasuli warned that anyone intending to influence the JJCHCAC would be dealt with according the law of the country.
Headed by the Attorney General, the Judicial Center for Combating Heavy Crime of Administrative Corruption was constituted following a decree by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a bid to pursue corruption cases. Nearly a month ago, the JJCCHCAC started operating, and so far it has convicted a senior private bank employee and a military judge for involvement in corruption.
