HERAT CITY (SW): Former Jehadi leader Mohammad Ismael Khan on Sunday said the deposing of Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor would cause turmoil in the country.
Speaking at a gathering in Herat city, he said the unseating of Balkh governor would cause repercussions similar to post-1978 coup when communist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan(PDPA)-led forces toppled President Mohammad Daoud Khan’s government, and subsequent events led to the Soviet invasion of the country.
In his speech, Ismael Khan said unseating of Noor would destabilize northern provinces, and allow the Taliban and the pro-Daesh militants to take advantage. He added it would also undermine the credibility of elections. He stressed the National Unity Government (NUG) was formed on principles that promised 50 per cent share in government to Jamiat party.
Ismael Khan urged President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to stop marginalizing Jehadi leaders, and review his decision of deposing Noor.
Also on Sunday, a gathering of Jamiat and Junbish parties in Jawzjan province held a gathering to denounce the unseating of Balkh governor. They blamed the Presidential palace and office of the Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah of destabilizing northern provinces, and allowing the Taliban and Daesh to flourish.
Protesters charged the Presidential Palace for paving way for unfair elections.
Meanwhile, Amrullah Saleh, leader of the Green Movement, in a statement on his facebook page expressed support for CEO Abdullah. In the statement, he said no moves can undermine the credibility and role of Abdullah Abdullah.
