FAIZABAD (SW) – The provincial council members in Badakhshan claim employees at the Ishkashim dry port have not been paid their salaries for more than two years.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, Talabuddin Qaderi, member of the provincial council, said the issue of non-payment of salaries has been shared with the Ministry of Trade and Commerce (MoTC) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) on multiple times, but to no avail. He said the non-payment of salaries has literally brought the dry port to standstill.
Rasheed, an employee at the port, said in this regard that the persistent efforts since last two and a half year to receive salaries have yielded no results. Mohammad Dawood, a resident of Ishkashim district, said he has been living in a rented home, and the non-payment of salaries has forced him to pay the electricity bills and rent of home from his pocket.
Meanwhile, Aslam Guzaar, state accountant in Badakhshan, has clarified the Ishkashim dry port workers have been paid for the past year, but the pending dues for a year and a half are delayed due to the transfer of port affairs from the MoTC to the MoF.
