Ishaq Rahgozar appointed as new Governor of Balkh

BALKH (SW): Mohammad Ishaq Rahgozar was officially introduced as the new governor of Balkh after the agreement of Arg with Jamiat-e Islami.

Abdul Salam Rahimi, head of the office of the president, deputy of Jamiat-e Islami party, and hundreds of Balkh tribal elders were present at a ceremony to introduce the new governor of Balkh.

Atta Mohammad Noor, the ousted governor of Balkh said after the talks between the Jamiat-e Islami and the Arg considering the interest of the people, decided to nominate Ishaq Rahgozar as the new governor of Balkh, and General Akram Sama as the new police chief of Balkh province.

The three months of talks and impasse were not for the personal gain, but for the interest of the people, Atta Mohammad Noor added.

In response to critics who have said that Atta Mohammad Noor should not have left the position of governor of Balkh, said that they have reached an agreement with the Arg, and their demands were met.

Noor thanked his supporters and the delegations involved in the dialogue between the Jamiat-e Islami and the Arg, in particular, Salahuddin Rabbani, the leader of Jamiat-e Islami party and emphasized that he will pursue to work towards the unity of the Afghan people.

Noor added that a strong presence in the upcoming election is one of his political agenda.

By saying goodbye to the people of Balkh and with the strong support and blessings from the people, Noor left the position of the governor of Balkh today (Thursday) emptying the seat for Mohammad Ishaq Rahgozar.

Abdul Salam Rahimi, head of the office of the president hailed the agreement between the Jamiat-e Islami and the Arg, saying it is a milestone and emphasized on the unity of the people of Afghanistan.

Some three months ago, Atta Mohammad Noor opposed the announcement of his resignation by the Arg, and vowed to remain in his seat unless his demands from the government are not met.

After heightened tensions and warnings to the Arg, two teams from Jamiat-e Islami and the Arg were sent to Balkh to resolve the impasse and ultimately the deal has been reached.

Jamiat-e Islami has proposed Najib Fahim as the Minister for Afghan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), and Mirwais Balkhi as the Minister of Education, and Farhad Azimi as Ambassador of Afghanistan to Kazakhstan.

Mohammad Ishaq Rahgozar was the governor of Balkh for two years during the transitional government and later served as the member of Wolesi Jirga. He is a member of the Jamiat-e Islami leadership.
