Iran promises attractive incentives for Afghan traders at Chabahar

TEHRAN (SW): Iran has assured Afghanistan that special incentives would be provided to Afghan traders at the Port of Chabahar.

Akbar Torkan, Chief Advisor of Iranian Supreme Leader President Hassan Rohani said this while meeting the visiting Afghan Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah. Jawed Faisal, spokesman for the CEO told Salam Watandar that Iran promised to relax visa regime, taxation and custom duties for the Afghan traders investing at the Port Chabahar.

Torkan said Tehran government has initiated a number of schemes to attract investment at this port built with the cooperation of India with the aim to improve Afghanistan’s connectivity with the world.

Abdullah stressed in his remarks that the Port of Chabahar was of pivotal importance for Afghanistan and would serve as a good alternative sea rout. He informed the Iranian officials that some 36 Afghan companies are seeking to invest at this port.

The visiting delegation headed by the CEO also met Iranian Vice President Masooma Ibtikar, who is also head of the Environment Protection Agency. The Afghan delegation was informed that Iran has provided technical training to a number of relevant officials from Afghanistan in the field of environment protection.

She also invited Afghanistan to attend the forth coming climate conference in Iran.

Later, the problems faced by Afghan refugees in Iran were discussed in a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Abdul Raza Rahmani. Abdullah stressed that efforts should be made to ensure safety and respect of the refugee community. It was noted that registration process of the refugees would commence soon that would ensure no legitimate refugee gets harassed.

The visiting Afghan delegation is set to visit the Port of Chabahar on Wednesday.
