FARAH CITY (SW): Chairperson of Farah Provincial Council has claimed an Iranian military helicopter has dropped supplies for the Taliban militants.
She told Salam Watandar this particular helicopter entered Afghanistan’s airspace at around 02:00 am on Saturday and stayed in the Kah Kala district till 04:00 am. She added the helicopter landed in the Taliban controlled area. The PC Chairperson added that immediately after this incident, the Taliban stormed two security check posts nearby and killed three policemen while leaving three others wounded.
Nasir Mehri, spokesman for the provincial governor, said the government has received some information from the locals, however, efforts are underway to verify these reports. He confirmed the Taliban’s attacks on security check posts in Sheb Koh and Pusht Koh districts. Mehri confirmed six policemen and 5 Taliban militants died in these clashes.
Meanwhile, Mehmood Afkhami Rashidi, the Iranian Consulate General in Herat, has rejected allegations about Iranian support for the militants.
