KABUL (SW): Officials at Attorney General’s Office (AGO) have stated that almost 80 percent of the investigation into the Ministry of Urban Development Affairs (MoUDA) related scam has been completed.
Noor Habib Jalal, the Acting Attorney General said six people have been found guilty in connection with the corruption. Talking to SW, he added evidence has been compiled in this regard. The six men are identified as Ahmad Shah Himmat, Mohammad Amin Amin, Ahmad Nawaz Bakhtyar, Gul Rahim Zayarmal, Sayed Amanullah Sadat , Mohamad Amin Qany.
The men have allegedly committed corruption worth in million of dollars. They have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) under Presidential orders.
Three of these suspects, Ahmad Nawaz Bakhtyar, Mohammad Amin Sadat and Mohamad Amin Qanay intended to flee to Tajikistan but were held by the border force at Badakhshan.
Abdul Qahar Farrukh Seyar, spokesman for the High Office of Oversight and Anti-corruption (HOOAC) has underlined the need to thoroughly analyze the case from every aspect. Talking to SW, he stressed that there should be no political interference.
“These kinds of cases are highly important, If this case is handled properly, I am certain that peoples’ outlook about the government’s efficiency in fighting corruption will change for the better; and their confidence in government’s capabilities will grow” Seyar said.
Afghanistan is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Based on the Transparency International index, Afghanistan ranks 174 among 176 countries of the world in terms of corruption.
