KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) has announced to cut down internet prices across the country by 20 percent from tomorrow onward.
MoCIT announced on Tuesday this move would help increase the number of internet users from the current 4 million to 15 million in 4 years time. Mohammad Najib Azizi, head of communication services at the MoCIT, told journalists in Kabul the Ministry is aiming to provide internet services to as many citizens as possible by lowering prices. “We will try to further lower the prices in the coming years”, assured Azizi.
Giving more details, the head of communication services at the MoCIT said Afghanistan acquires internet services via the fiber optic coming from Pakistan at the rate of $ 120 per MB, from Iran at the rate of $180 per MB and from Kazakhstan at the rate of $ 268 per MB. “With the new deal, we will pay these countries $ 96, $ 144 and $ 268 per MB respectively”, added Azizi.
