KABUL (SW) – The Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan has claimed the internal rift and lack of coordination between electoral commissions is paving way for graft and meddling.
Yosuf Rasheed, chief executive of FEFA, told a press conference here on Sunday that the differences between the Independent Election Commission and the Independent Election Complaint Commission would result in negative consequences.
According to the FEFA, the confrontation between the polling commissions has undermined the trust of voters and candidates in the electoral process. He said the unilateral decision by the IECC to declare all vote cast in Kabul as void without informing the IEC was a clear example of lack of coordination.
Meanwhile, Kubra Rezaey, deputy spokesperson for the IEC, told Salam Watandar the confrontation between the electoral commissions was not in the interest of the people or the government. She said the IEC is striving to peacefully recount and investigate the votes in this national process.
SW wished to have the views of the IECC, but to no avail.
