KABUL (SW): Authorities at the Ministry of Finance announced on Saturday the internal revenue in the current year has increased by 21 percent in comparison to that a year earlier.
Eklil Hakimi, the Minister told journalists in Kabul that the government has recovered unprecedented amount of revenue this year against the target of afn 114 billion ($ 1.6 billion) set for it by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Hakimi said that this year the internal revenue reached to afn 120, 75 billion ($ 1.7 billion).
The Minister asserted that it was an unprecedented and phenomenal achievement. He noted that the main sources for the revenue included customs, ministries, and provincial administrations, small and medium enterprises.
According to the Minister, main improvement was seen in collections at customs with 55.5 percent of the revenue coming via this sector.
Hakimi mentioned that similar pattern of improve revenue collections were the hallmarks at local, provincial, and business levels of tax collections.
The Minister of Finance also said that because of security challenges the government could not properly collect revenue from restive provinces like Kundoz.
Eklil Hakimi mentioned that the improved revenue collection earned Afghanistan the opportunity to receive $ 75 million of additional assistance from the IMF.
