KABUL (SW) – Following the US State Department's annual report on human trafficking and child abuse and "Bachabazi" among Afghan security forces, the Interior Ministry said it would prevent the recruitment of minors into the police force.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement issued Sunday, June 28, that it had read the report of the US State Department and "has taken practical steps in this regard to the previous series of reforms."
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that the ministry had set up an agency called the Department of Homeland Security to monitor the behavior of police and prevent the recruitment of children.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that in order to identify details of the police force, it had set up an "EPS" system, which would prevent anyone under the age of 18 from joining police.
According to the Ministry of Interior, 80% of the officials of the Ministry of Interior have registered in this system so far. The statement said that the reform process in the ranks of the national police forces is continuing in earnest.
The State Department said in its annual report on human trafficking that "there have been ongoing reports of child molestation, but officers have never been prosecuted.
The report said that the Afghan Ministry of Interior and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) had always denied the allegations, saying that minors had not been recruited as soldiers.
