JALALABAD (SW): Local officials in eastern Nangarhar province have said that at least 41 Taliban insurgents have been killed during the ongoing fighting in the province’s Hesarak district.
The clashes erupted on Friday and are still underway. Taliban however, claimed to have captured the district last night, and have inflicted heavy casualties upon the security forces.
Abdullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor in the province, discarded the claims made by the militants, and said that the militants only managed to overrun three security check posts. He said that operation to reclaim the check posts is underway.
Khogyani told Salam Watandar that the Afghan Air Force (AAF) has targeted the militants in Hesarak district, and have killed a number of militants including foreign fighters.
He said that only 2 security men have been killed during the clashes, and 3 more have been wounded.
