KUNDUZ CITY(SW): Residents in Imam Saheb district in Kunduz, has expressed their concerns over wide presence of foreign insurgents along the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

A number of these residents told Salam Watandar that recently foreign insurgents have set up training camps for organizing terrorist attacks, making IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and road bombs.

The residents are surprised that the security officials with their checkpoints located nearby Jangal area show no reaction and take no measure against them.

Haji Mohammad Amin and Noor Mohammad, two of the residents in Imam Saheb district, said foreign insurgents have had a lot of activities for the past six months near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, especially in Jangal area.

The locals said they have no idea about the exact number of the insurgents but said that they include Pakistanis, Uzbeks, Kyrghiz and Tajiks.

It is said that the routes to Jangal area in Imam Saheb district have been fully blocked and the insurgents have posed rules for commuting to and from these areas.

Hamdullah Daneshi, Kunduz Acting Governor, confirmed the worsening security situation at the border and said that security forces would soon conduct a wide operation in the area.

He said that ensuring security at the border areas was crucial for Afghanistan and the government would not allow any group to dismantle security there.

Earlier, Imamuddin Quraishi, District Chief in Imam Saheb, told Salam Watandar that the number of foreign insurgents has increased day by day at the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

According to Quraishi, nearly 200 insurgents were active in the outskirt of Dasht-e-Archi and Imam Saheb districts.

Residents in Imam Saheb said that following Pakistan’s military operation in Waziristan, armed militants fled to Afghanistan along with their families in border areas between Takhar, Kunduz and Badakhshan provinces.

They believed that the insurgents speak local languages, which indicate that they were not foreign insurgent groups.
