KABUL (SW): Head of the De Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) on Tuesday said insecurity in 15 districts of 5 restive provinces is hindering reading of electricity meters.
Amanullah Ghalib, head of DABS, told a press conference in Kabul that a reform program has been implemented at the power utility to fight corruption and improve performance. Ghalib said meter readers have also been stopped from performing their duties and even beaten in the Tara Khel and Bemaro areas in the capital Kabul.
The head of the power utility said a number of parliamentarians, government officials and common citizens owe DABS up to AFN 10.5 billion. He added only AFN 2.5 billion have been recovered in this regard.
DABS also announced inking deals with private firms worth AFN 251 million for various uplift projects.
