KABUL (SW): Authorities at the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) have said many development projects have not been implemented due to insecurity in Kunduz and Helmand provinces.
Mahmoud Baligh, acting minister of Public Works, told a presser here that many development projects could not be implemented even in relatively secure areas. “The ministry has ample amount of development budget, but has not been able to execute projects” said Baligh.
He informed the MoPW has in sight uplift projects worth $ 520 million for this year. The minister called the rail link between China and Afghanistan as a major development which would help lower the prices of many items in the market. “The ministry is working to develop rail lines in the south of the country next year”, announced Baligh.
It is worth noticing Mahmoud Baligh was unseated in December 2016 by the Wolesi Jirga for not properly spending development budget of the ministry.
