Insecurity forces thousands to flee homes in Jawzjan

SHEBERGHAN (SW) – Over an estimated one thousand families have been forced to flee their homes in Jawzjan province following clashes between the security forces and the Taliban insurgents.

A number of these internally displaced persons told Salam Watandar they are in need of urgent aid and support. Many of the IDPs have taken shelter in the provincial capital, Shebergahn and Qosh Tapa district.

Malalai, an IDP, said she has lost a number of her family members to the raging conflict. She also blamed the local administration of failing to address the needs of the displaced families. The deteriorating security situation has also caused concerns among the locals.

Meanwhile, Jawzjan governor, Lutfullah Azizi asserted that efforts have been expedited to provide necessary aid and support to the IDPs.

Police chief for Darzab, Ismail, confirmed that a clean-up operation has been launched in the district against the Taliban. He blamed the government for not striving hard to address the concerns of the IDPs.
