Infighting among militants forces hundreds to flee in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (SW): Infighting among the Taliban and pro-Daesh militants in Nangarhar’s Khogyano district has forced hundreds of families to flee for their lives.

Mubarez Khadem Bahadurzay, governor of Khogyano district, informed Salam Watandar that the clashes in the Wazir Gorge area have forced up to 700 families to flee. He said the displaced families have moved to the provincial capital Jalalabad city, Chmatalay and Kagey areas.

A well-placed security source told Salam Watandar that the ragging clashes have killed 20 militants and four civilians. A displaced men from the Wazir Gorge area said he fled the fighting with his family literally empty handed. The locals informed the two militant groups are fighting for turf, and displacement of the locals continues.

The provincial administration has vowed to assist the needy Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor, said in this regard that the directorate of refugees and repatriates has been directed to address the immediate needs of the IDPs.

A source informed that the pro-Daesh rebels have the upper hand in these clashes against the Taliban and locals. Prior to these latest clashes, fighting between the two groups displaced hundreds of families from the Pacheragam and Shinwari areas of the province.
