GARDEZ (SW) – Traders and investors in Paktia are faced with troubles amid shortage of land and electricity at the industrial park in the province.
Two such traders, Abdullah Khan and Mohammad Sidiq, who own soap and garment factories respectively, said they have invested thousands of dollars here, but are faced with shortage of land and electricity hindering growth in their business.
Abdul Naseer Aalimyar, chairman of the Paktia Chamber of Commerce and Industries, has echoed the concerns of the traders. He said a number of local and foreign businessmen showed interest in investing here, but shortage of land and electricity has discouraged them. He noted there are some 80 industrial units present in the province worth some $ 5 million.
Head of the directorate of commerce and industries, Naqibullah Sarhadi, lamented lack of funds is the reason behind the problem. Meanwhile, Mohammad Asif Niazi, director of the power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat in the province, clarified the industrialists have not shared with them the details of their electricity requirement that is why the issue of power supply to the industrial park is not resolved yet.
Up to 80 industrial units are functioning in rented facilities at the Paktia Industrial Park due to lack of land and electricity.
