BAMYAN (SW) – For the first time, a group of 58 women in Bamyan have earned driving license after successfully undergoing driving tests.

Syed Sher Hussain Chamran, head of the licensing department at the police headquarters in Bamyan, has said these women were nominated for the test by the gender directorate of the governor house, and they have successfully completed theoretical and practical driving tests after eight weeks of training and traffic law education.

Head of the gender directorate of the governor house, Shima Shayan, told Salam Watandar that the goal behind introducing this group of women for the driving lessons was to build capacity of women in this regard.

Women who have obtained the driving licenses acknowledged that many social and security impediments continue to cause hurdles for them. According to them the patriarchal culture, insecurity and obscene customs are serious obstacles, but slight improvement has been seen in the province thanks to the support by national and international institutions.
