KABUL (SW): Head of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) expressing concern over the increasing corruption in the country said that the impunity for the corruption is a factor of instability and the persistence of injustice in the country.
Sima Samar, head of the AIHRC today (Wednesday) in a “National Meeting on Human Rights and Anti-Corruption” in Kabul, said that continuing corruption in the country and nongovernment organizations has led to increased insecurity, war and injustice in the country.
Mrs. Samar said that the existence of a culture of impunity for corruption is the biggest problem in the country and a political commitment is needed to fight corruption.
She added that “corruption puts all human rights and even political rights values of people in jeopardy, and corruption in the democratic institutions puts elections in peril”.
Ghulam Haidar Alama, deputy attorney general’s office, said the government has a strong commitment to fight corruption.
According to him, the Attorney General’s Office will prosecute all offenders with fair and just judgment.
Head of the AIHRC considered the serious and continued work to be important in fighting corruption and added that one of the ways to fight corruption is to look at all issues from the human rights point of view.
