SAMANGAN CITY (SW): A number of Samangan residents have raised concerns over an increase in the movement of armed men and subsequent insecurity in the province.
Zabehullah and Ahmad Jawed, two such Samangan residents, told Salam Watandar that the number of illegally armed men has manifold that has resulted in incidents of crimes. They added this trend has spread fears among residents of many districts who are now too scared to travel directly to Aibak cty, but via Mazar-e-Sharif city.
Wafiullah Shaherkhi, a local civil society activist, has stressed the government should take immediate steps to ensure snap checking of suspected vehicles, and curbing movement of illegally armed men. Fearing about worst to come, he charged the local authorities of negligence.
Meanwhile, Muneer Rahimi, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, has underlined that the Samangan Garrison has been better equipped recently, and it would take practical steps against illegally armed men in a week’s time.
Lying next to Baghlan province, Samangan’s security is often affected by restlessness in its neighborhood.
