MAZAR-E-SHARIF (SW): Atta Mohammad Noor, the former governor of Balkh province and chief executive of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, on Saturday said the Arg (Presidential Palace) and Safaidar (Office of the Chief Executive) have no power to unseat him.
Addressing a gathering in the provincial capital Mazar-e-Sharif, Noor said he entered negotiations for power-sharing with the Arg on behalf of the Jamiat party, and played key role in addressing issues in this regard.
Noor went on to say he tirelessly backed his party-mate Abdullah Abdullah to become Chief Executive Officer of the National Unity Government (NUG) despite opposition by many Jamiat members. The Jamiat leader charged Abdullah of conspiring to split the party, calling him ‘snake in the sleeve’. Noor lashed out at Abdullah, holding him responsible for much of the troubles he and other Jamiat members face. “The teeth you have sharpened for me, with the might of God I would break them”.
He underlined Abdullah is a nominee of the Jamiat party for the post of CEO, and the party has the right to replace him. He vowed to stay as governor of Balkh to counter the threats posed by Daesh and the Taliban groups.
He thanked his supporters in different provinces while suggesting them to be patient, and initiate civil campaign if situation persisted. Noor said other options are also on the cards if things did not change.
