GARDEZ (SW) – A number of protesting Wolesi Jirga (lower house) candidates in Paktia on Thursday charged the Independent Election Complaint Commission of corruption.
In a protest demonstration at the IECC office in Kabul, these protesting WJ candidates said a ‘deal’ has been brokered over their votes, and the genuine votes have not been separated from those rigged.
Shaista Jan Ahadi and Mohammad Amin Sharafat, two such candidates, said they would not allow IECC officials to work until their demands are not met. They charged the IECC officials have brokered a ‘deal’ with land-grabbers. They also claimed to have documented proof to back their allegations of bribery and corruption.
They also vowed not to let the forthcoming presidential elections take place in Paktia if their demands are met.
However, Ali Reza Rouhani, spokesman for the IECC, said if the protesters have proof, they should refer to the legal institutions.
This comes as similar protest demonstrations have been held in Kabul and other provinces against the WJ elections results announced by the electoral commission.
