KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Commission on Saturday announced a reserve day, Sunday, for voters in the ongoing polls for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house).
This decision came after reports of delays in voting caused by lack of staff or late opening of polling stations.
Abdul Badi Sayyad, IEC chief, blamed the Ministry of Education staff, who were supposed to serve the duties of polling officers, for the delay. He said those polling stations that are opened late would remain open longer to allow people to vote. He stressed the IEC is committed to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to vote.
