KABUL (SW) – An election commission spokesman, Zabihullah Sadat, has said informative meetings with the electoral teams are over, and soon the preliminary results would be announced.
This comes as the leader of Stability and Partnership team, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, reaffirmed on Wednesday he would not accept the results if the election commission failed to address his legitimate demands. He urged the Independent Election Commission not to announce the results without addressing the legal demands of the electoral teams.
Separately, the Presidential Candidates’ Council also warned the IEC on Wednesday that under such circumstances the announcement of preliminary results would only aggravate the situation. A member of this council, Ahmad Wali Massoud, said with this the IEC is further complicating the situation rather than resolving it.
The PCC has said the electoral commission’s recent operations in regard to the disputed recount and poor management are political.
The IEC has so far failed to deliver the preliminary results for the polls held over two months ago.
