KABUL (SW): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) revealed on Wednesday polling stations in up to 33 districts in 13 restive provinces have not been monitored for the forthcoming elections due to security threats.
Imam Mohammad Wraymach, Secretary IEC, told a press conference here that plans are in place to monitor and evaluate 418 districts across the country. He added so far the IEC has managed to evaluate situation for voting in 360 of the districts, and evaluation is underway in 25 others.
The IEC Secretary said 33 restive districts comprises 8 per cent of their target areas for evaluation. Wraymach stressed efforts are underway in collaboration with the security forces, provincial councils, civil society organizations, religious scholars and local elders to make review of these areas possible.
According to the IEC, it is facing troubles evaluating prospects for elections in these districts located in Maidan Wardak, Herat, Farah, Faryab, Ghazni, Paktia, Kunduz, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Helmand and Nangarhar provinces.
Two months ago, the IEC announced dates for the long-due parliamentary and district council elections in the country. Najibullah Ahmadzai, the IEC chief, has announced the elections would be held on July 07 next year.
