KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Commission on Wednesday announced establishment of a central votes’ sorting facility for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections.
Gulajan Abdulbadi Sayad, head of the IEC, said on the occasion the WJ votes in all provinces would be collected in provincial capitals, and there the votes would be sorted and counted. He said the sorting of votes for the Kabul province would commence today.
Based on the reports, the biometric verification of voters did not take place at a number of polling stations in different parts of the country.
The IEC chairman acknowledged that at 20 per cent of polling stations, the biometric system of verification has not been used. He stressed the IEC staff is striving hard to vigorously sort votes of such polling stations. Sayad said a mechanism has been established to transparently sort out the votes.
The IEC chairman stressed votes without the signatures of the IEC officials would not be counted.
The WJ polls took place over the weekend, but technical glitches and delays during voting have been widely criticized.
