KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Commission on Sunday discarded rumours about possible delay in forthcoming Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections.
Syed Hafeezullah Hashimi, spokesman for the IEC, told a presser that the elections are set to be held on October 20, and the date will not change. He said the IEC is all set to hold fair and timely elections.
Hashimi said those spreading such negative rumours about delay actually want to harm peoples’ trust in the electoral process and tamper with this national process.
The IEC officials said electoral material has been sent to 33 provinces across the country, and the biometric voter registration devices would also reach all polling stations by Friday.
