IDPs in Ghor lament the unjust distribution of aid

13/01/2019

GHOR (SW) – Thousands of families in Ghor have fled their homes due to crippling drought, ragging fighting and tribal feuds.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, many such internally displaced persons said the aid distribution is not executed in a just way. They claimed most of the aid material is ending up with people who are not needy but have contacts and influence. They lamented their repeated complaints and requests to the government and aid agencies have fallen on deaf ears

Commenting on this, Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the provincial governor, acknowledged situation is appalling, but efforts are underway to provide aid to some six thousand IDP families. He said with the help of the WFP and the UNHCR, some 2680 IDP families have already been provided with aid and financial support.

However, head of the directorate of refugees and repatriation, Abdul Rauf Ghafori, has discarded the claims made by the IDPs. He vowed aid and financial assistance have been distributed only among the needy and vulnerable people. He said financial compensation has been provided to some 2000 families in Ghor.

The local officials said WFP is set to provide food aid to over 30, 000 IDP families in Ghor.
