KABUL (SW) – A number of internally displaced persons are faced with grim challenges in Badakhshan who are forced to flee their homes due to intense clashes between the security forces and insurgents.
The IDPs said they have spent more than two months starving without shelter, but no support has been extended towards them.
Ahmad Mir Javad, Jurum district governor in Badakhshan, told Salam Watandar donations from donor agencies are not enough, and they have shared concerns with the local government and donor agencies about worsening conditions of the IDPs amid the harsh weather.
Sayed Abdullah Homayoun Dehghan, head of the National Disaster Management Authority in Badakhshan, said in this connection the department has helped more than a thousand displaced families, but the aid is small compared to the needs of the displaced.
A large number of war displaced people, who had been living under tents and trees for a few days, sought refuge in rented houses, with some houses having about ten families in each of them.
Local authorities in Badakhshan said they have voiced concerns with the government and other donor agencies to speed up the process of reaching to the displaced persons
