ICRC: 2015 was the deadliest year for Afghanistan

KABUL(SW): Peter Maurer , President of the International  Committee of The Red Cross(ICRC), told  a press conference here in Kabul today(Friday) , that 2015 was the deadliest year for the Afghan citizens.

He said that a large number of civilians including warring sides have lost their lives in the fighting.

He added that the international aid agencies were also went through immense pressure as a number of their staffers too lost their lives in the restive areas in 2015.

He pointed out that in the past year, nearly 1 million Afghan citizens left their country for abroad due to insecurity and unemployment.

He said that more than 3500 civilians were killed and 7500 more injured as a result of fighting and security forces military operations.

He further said that in his face to face conversation with the citizens, they pointed out to insecurity and unemployment as their major needs.

According to him, Afghanistan needs a political solution to the conflict but such solution seems rather out of reach.

He vowed that ICRC will increase its budget for Afghanistan by 10 percent in 2016.
