KABUL (SW): The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has officially opened its office in Afghanistan on Thursday.
Authorities at the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) have said the (ICC) office in Kabul would help improve global trade ties.
Azarakhsh Hafizi, head of international relations at the ACCI, said the ICC is a supporting organization to promote private investment, increase trade and promote industry in Afghanistan and the region. Criticizing the government, Hafizi added Afghanistan is member of some 51 trade bodies but the government does not have active representation at these forums. “With the opening of the ICC office, Afghanistan will be connected with the world trade”, explained Hafizi.
Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of the government, officially inaugurated the ICC’s office in Kabul. Praising the private sector in the country, Abdullah said the government should pay more attention to private sector.
Afghanistan had obtained the membership of ICC 82 years ago, but the chamber had no office in the country until recently.
