Husband sets wife on fire in Kabul

KABUL (SW): A 27 years old woman, who has been married for the past 12 years, has been seriously burnt by her own husband.

Talking to Salam Watandar in a hospital in Kabul, Shamillah said that her husband used to beat her frequently for not preparing ‘proper bread’. With the second marriage of my husband, she noted، troubles multiplied on daily bases. There was a fight between my son and my husband’s other son from the second wife, and when he got to know about it, he poured petrol on my face and set me on fire.  

After this incident, her husband sent Shamillah to her father’s home. With her 3 children, Shamillah now lives in Shiwakai district of Kabul. Shamillah said that for many years, she tolerated her husband for the sake of her children. “I can no longer stand such a life”, she said with a deep pain in her voice. 

While her husband has disappeared after the incident, Shamillah has asked the government to arrest and punish him.

It is one week now since Shamillah has been hospitalized. Doctors say that 27% of her body has been burnt and her injuries would take a long time to fully recover.
