KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Hundreds of refugee families have been forced to leave Pakistan by the local authorities.
In Kandahar’s Shorawak district, the weary refugees told Salam Watandar they have been forced to leave Pakistan haphazardly, and are now facing troubles to make ends meet. According to the local officials, Pakistan has forced some five hundred refugees families to flee due to growing persecution, and these families have arrived to the restive Shorawak district.
The provincial chapter of the Independent Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has expressed grim concerns over the state of these needy families which have a large number of women and children living in the open air without any aid and support. Abdul Aziz Ikrami, director for media affairs at the Kandahar IHRC, told Salam Watandar these repatriated families urgently need assistance. “Forcing hundreds of these families to leave Pakistan and come and live in the open air under the harsh winter is an act against the International Humanitarian Law, these people need urgent help”, he stressed.
Meanwhile, local office of the National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA) has blamed the ragging violence for delay in supplying aid to the needy families in Shorawak. Masoud Pashton, director NDMA in Kandahar, told Salam Watandar it is literally impossible to provide aid to these families residing in areas out of the control of the government.
The provincial government, however, has directed all concerned entities to expedite aid delivery to these families. Samim Khpalwak, spokesman for the governor, told Salam Watandar, the provincial government is aware about the prevailing situation.
