NANGARHAR (SW) – At least 1500 families have been displaced in Kunar province due to raging armed clashes between the Taliban and pro-Daesh rebels here.
A well-placed source told Salam Watandar these families have been forced to flee their homes in the Chapa Dara district of Kunar. Most of them have moved to other parts of Kunar and neighboring Nangarhar province.
Gul Mohammad Fazli, head of the Red Crescent Society in Kunar, has confirmed more than a thousand families have been forced to flee their homes in Kunar. He said non-food aid can been provided to the displaced families only if the government allows access to the restive parts of the province.
When contacted, Ghani Musmim, provincial governor, told SW a team has been sent to the area to assess the scale of displacement as well as to distribute aid.
Two residents of Chapa Dara district, Khan Syed and Ebadullah, said fighting has slowed down, but the population remains frightened.
According to a security source, the clashes between the two militant groups erupted last week, and are likely to escalate further. The source said 31 pro-Daesh fighters and three Taliban fighters have been killed and 21 pro-Daesh fighters and some Taliban fighters have been injured. Some civilians are also reported injured, but these figures have not been confirmed by authorities.
